FiveM Monetization Rules: What You Can Legally Sell on Your Server
What FiveM's rules permit server owners to sell, where the gameplay-advantage line sits, and how to verify it yourself instead of trusting forum hearsay.
FiveM permits server monetization, but the governing principle is that what you sell must not grant a gameplay advantage. Cosmetics, priority queue and supporter perks are the conventional safe ground; selling money, items, or power is where servers get shut down. The rules live in Cfx's own terms and change — verify against the current official text before you build a revenue model on it.
Why this question keeps getting asked
The Cfx forums carry recurring threads asking whether it is still possible to legally monetize a server, what can be sold without violating the terms, and what the paid-resource landscape is allowed to look like. The questions recur because the answers are scattered across official terms, support articles, forum replies from staff, and a great deal of confident hearsay from people with no standing to give it.
We are not lawyers and this is not legal advice. What follows is the shape of the rules as they are commonly applied, with a hard instruction attached: verify against Cfx's current official terms before you build anything financial on them. Rules governing a platform owned by Rockstar Games since 2023 are exactly the kind that change without asking your opinion.
The principle everything else follows from
One idea explains most of the specific rules: you may be paid, but what you sell must not confer a gameplay advantage. A server that sells convenience and identity is conventionally in bounds. A server that sells power is not.
This is why the line falls where it does. Cosmetics don't change outcomes. Priority queue changes who waits, not who wins. Supporter roles are recognition. Money, items, weapons, vehicles with better stats, or anything that lets a paying player outperform a non-paying one in the game world — that's the side of the line where servers get their platform access removed rather than a warning.
- Conventionally accepted: cosmetic items, priority queue, supporter roles and badges, custom liveries and clothing, non-gameplay Discord perks.
- Conventionally prohibited: in-game currency, items or weapons, statistically superior vehicles, XP or progression boosts, anything that wins a fight or an economy.
- The grey middle: character slots, whitelist access, and anything convenience-adjacent — this is precisely where you should read the current official text rather than a forum reply from 2023.
- Selling resources you did not write, or reselling escrowed work, is a separate and much clearer prohibition.
Selling scripts is a different question than selling perks
Two different activities get conflated in these threads. Selling perks to your players is server monetization. Selling resources to other server owners is being a vendor — that's what we do, and it operates through an explicitly sanctioned commercial layer: Tebex, escrow, and since January 2026 an official Cfx.re Marketplace.
That marketplace existing at all is the clearest signal available about where the platform stands: Rockstar acquired Cfx.re in 2023 and then built a first-party storefront for paid resources. Paid resources are not a tolerated grey market. The obligations that come with being a vendor — support, licensing terms, honest claims — are the price of being in a sanctioned market rather than an improvised one.
What this costs you if you get it wrong
The failure mode is not a fine. It is the removal of your server's access to the platform it runs on — which, for a community with hundreds of players and years of history, is the end of the thing rather than a setback. That asymmetry is the whole argument for reading the current rules yourself rather than trusting a summary, including ours.
A server that has been quietly selling advantage for a year is not safe; it's unnoticed. Those are different words.
How to actually check, rather than guess
Go to the source, in this order. Cfx's own terms and support documentation are the authority; the forum is where staff clarify edge cases and where you can search whether your exact question has been answered by someone with standing to answer it. Tebex's own policies apply on top if you sell through them, because they are the merchant of record.
Date what you find. A rule you verified in July 2026 is a rule as of July 2026, and platform terms are living documents. If a revenue model depends on a specific reading of a specific clause, re-check it on a schedule rather than assuming your reading survived the last update.
And be suspicious of anyone — including any vendor — who tells you confidently what the rules permit without linking the text. We've written this page precisely because that confident, unsourced answer is what currently fills the gap.
Frequently asked
Is it legal to monetize a FiveM server?
Server monetization is permitted, with the governing principle that what you sell must not grant a gameplay advantage. Cosmetics, priority queue and supporter perks are the conventional safe ground. Because these rules live in Cfx's own terms and can change, verify the current official text before building a revenue model — this is a summary, not legal advice.
Can you sell in-game money on a FiveM server?
Selling in-game currency, items or anything that gives a paying player an advantage over a non-paying one is the clearest example of what the gameplay-advantage principle prohibits. This is the category where servers lose platform access rather than receive a warning.
Is selling FiveM scripts legal?
Selling resources you wrote operates through a sanctioned commercial layer: Tebex, Cfx asset escrow, and since January 2026 an official Cfx.re Marketplace. Rockstar acquired Cfx.re in 2023 and subsequently built a first-party storefront for paid resources. Selling work you did not write, or reselling escrowed resources, is separately and clearly prohibited.
What happens if you break FiveM's monetization rules?
The consequence is loss of platform access rather than a financial penalty — which for an established community is terminal rather than inconvenient. That asymmetry is why the current official text is worth reading yourself instead of trusting any summary.
Can I sell priority queue on my FiveM server?
Priority queue is conventionally treated as acceptable because it changes who waits rather than who wins — it confers no advantage inside the game world. As with everything here, confirm against the current official rules rather than a forum reply from a previous year.
