What is FiveM escrow?

FiveM (Cfx) asset escrow is a system that encrypts a resource's protected files and binds them to a buyer's server license, so the code runs on that server but cannot be opened, read, or edited. It protects sellers from having their work copied and resold. The cost lands on buyers: escrowed files can't be audited or deeply customized, so performance and security claims must be verified by behavior rather than by reading the source.

In one lineFiveM asset escrow is Cfx's mechanism for shipping an encrypted, license-bound copy of a resource's protected files so it runs without being readable or editable by the buyer.

The longer answer.

When a resource uses escrow, its protected files are distributed encrypted through Cfx's Keymaster licensing system and decrypted at runtime only for servers holding a valid grant — buyers install and run the resource normally, they simply cannot open the encrypted portion in a text editor. The Cfx.re Marketplace labels listings by accessibility tier: source-available, partially available, or closed, and "partially available" (some files open, some escrowed) describes most serious commercial scripts.

What buyers give up is real and worth stating plainly: escrowed code cannot be audited for security or performance before purchase, cannot be patched or deeply customized beyond the exposed config and exports, and cannot be community-maintained if the seller abandons it. None of that makes escrow illegitimate — it is a standard anti-theft tool — but it shifts risk onto the buyer in ways an undisclosed listing hides.

The disclosure standard worth demanding: exactly which files ship open, exactly which are escrowed, what the config surface covers, and what public exports or events let you integrate with the script. A seller who can answer those four questions in a sentence has thought about the buyer's side of escrow; one who can't is often asking for trust with no way to verify it.
